Welcome to Greenhill!
A great wee bed and breakfast in the Highlands of Scotland.
Greenhill is a small Bed & Breakfast situated on the North Coast 500, in the beautiful village of Scourie on the north west coast of Sutherland. A great place to stop whilst exploring the amazing Highlands, a base to take in some of the wildlife, scenery and wonderful area that we call home. We have been welcoming guests for a number of years and hope to have the opportunity to do so with you.

We live in a wonderful part of the Highlands of Scotland on the North Coast 500 offering guests bedrooms with ensuite available for individuals, groups or families.
We offer single nights or longer stays to share our part of the Highlands that we love and would love to share with you, please contact us if you'd like to stay.
Scourie
Scorie is a wonderful highland village and well situated for travellers touring the highlands and North Coast 500.
We are close to Handa Island, a nature reserve with a thriving sea bird population (including puffin).
We are in the North West Highland GeoPark, and also close to Cape Wrath, Smoo Cave, Kylesku and Sandwood Beach.
Rooms
We offer a choice of two king sized double bedrooms and a ground floor twin room - all with en-suite.
All our rooms are well kept and comfortable with a hospitality tray, Freeview TV, hair dryers and Free Wi-Fi.
We are happy to offer individual rooms or group bookings.
Sutherland
The Highlands of Scotland are famous for our scenery, nature, food, drink and hospitality.
One of the last unspoilt remote parts of the UK and Europe. Surrounded by mountains, glens, beaches and coastline, where it's possible to encounter eagles, dolphins, whales and stunning walks and climbs, we welcome those who wish to stop for a few days and explore.

Breakfast
We offer a range of choices for breakfast including yogurts, fresh fruit, cereals and full cooked breakfast. We can cater for special dietary requirements with prior notice.
Parking
We have a large private car park at the rear of the house. We are in a quiet location and you will not be disturbed and your car or bikes will be secure for your stay.
Bike Storage
We have recently_ built a secure bike storage facility for those who are cycling the Highlands. We are in a quiet village and your bike and property will be secure and safe with us.

Scourie
A beautiful highland village, Scourie (pronounced 'Scoury') overlooks the sea and is set amongst some of the finest wild and natural scenery in the country, if not the world.. A crofting community, Scourie is halfway between Durness and Ullapool and a great base for exploring Sutherland and the north west Highlands of Scotland. If you are wanting to stay and appreciate the surroundings or are passing as you tour the Highlands and NC500, we would welcome you to Greenhill and give you a fine Highland stay.

History
Originally part of the Mackay Clan territory, the birthplace in 1640 of General Hugh Mackay of Scourie who rose to become Commander-in-Chief of the army in in 1689, Scourie became a centre for crofting and fishing. Like much of the Highlands the community suffered during the clearances.

Handa Island
In recent times Scourie has become well known for its links with Handa Island, a nature reserve ran by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and home to over 200,000 sea birds including 250 pairs of Puffin. Scourie is also in the North West GeoPark and close to many places of outstanding scenery and nature.

Things to do and see
During the summer, a ferry service operates to Handa Island. The island is stunning and also home to a huge number of seabirds during breeding season, including puffin, razorbill and skua. A path around the island allows visitor to explore and look over the nesting sites and also out to sea where there are often passing pods of dolphin and even whales.
Described as the cradle of geology, the GeoPark around us has some stunning features and also information stops on the routes aswell as visitor centres that also do special talks and tours.
The geology is worth looking into as not only does it create the amazing views and mountains but is a region that provided much of the geological knowledge that we know today.
Sailing from Kylsku Harbour, and by the amazing Kylesku Bridge, tours in the summer will take you out to see some of our sea life such as seals, seabirds and even dolphins.
The tour also takes in Eas a’Chual Aluinn - the highest waterfall in the United Kingdom with a sheer drop of 200m. When in full flow it is over three times higher than Niagara Falls.
A 4 mile walk takes you into one of the most remote but stunning beaches in Scotland.
A special wild place of awe-inspiring coastal beauty, exciting wildlife and very rewarding for those who love nature and wildlife.

Stoer Head Lighthouse was established in 1870 and engineered by David and Thomas Stevenson. The lighthouse at Stoer Head is one of nearly 200 that are located all around Scotland’s wild coastline.
A short walk takes you from the car park to the lighthouse and views out to the Minch, Hebrides and Atlantic, where you will often see marine life such as dolphins and even whales.
The most north easterly point of mainland Britain, can be visited during summer months.
We have a lot of archaeological sites of interest in the area but Clachtoll Broch is quite special as was excavated in recent years.
Over two thousand years old and worth the time to visit and explore.
Open all year but tours in the summer offer boat trips into the cave.
Geologically impressive with a history that includes Vikings!
We are surrounded by coastline, mountains and glens. Some suitable for beginners, others requiring experience and knowledge.
Whatever your level, this site has guides for doing so throughout Scotland and near to us too.
There are a number of places in the area to eat and drink, ranging from fine dining to roadside stops.

Directions
From Inverness/South
Drive north and over Kessock Bridge. Follow the A835 to Ullapool. Drive through Ullapool and then head north for Lochinver. Turn left at Ledmore Junction onto A837 and keep going approx 8 miles to turning on right for A894 highlighted Kylesku. Cross the Kylesku Bridge and keep going North for approx 10 miles until you come into Scourie. We are the last house on the right a little after the petrol station.
From Durness/North
Take the A838 south until Laxford Bridge. Take the right to Scourie on the A894. We are the first house on the left as you enter Scourie.
